Abstract

Malaysia is the second largest world palm oil producer. The oil palm industry has been the main contributor of biomasses to Malaysia. These biomasses can be turned into various value-added bio-based products that are in high demand, such as bioenergy, bio-agriculture, eco-products, and bio-chemicals. In this chapter, the availability of various palm biomasses in Malaysia, and its current industry practices were reviewed. The innovations involving the conversion of biomasses into value-added products were outlined. Challenges to unlock the potential of the underutilized biomasses are further discussed.
